They’ve managed to fool people into believing that they won in a raffle but they have to enter a code to send to a number to claim the prize. The “ eto bago kong roaming number” scam and the “ Ma, naaksidente po ako” scam were so overused already, scammers invented new ways to dupe people. In fact, I was beginning to wonder how on earth could people be so gullible to be victimized when almost everybody already knows how it works. After all, their modus operandi is pretty easy to spot. Now with the benefit of learning from experience, she texted back “ kung totoong lawyer ka, ano’ng roll of attorneys number mo?” My mom is such a patol queen that I warned her not to reply at all when she receives text messages like that because it might be a virus or something that even without her sending anything, something else may be stolen from her.Īgain, I was so sure I won’t fall prey to these criminals. One time, she received a text message from someone claiming to be a lawyer of an organization and that she won in a raffle but she had to contact him. I think she’s still angry because when she receives text messages like that, she’d reply with “ sino’ng niloko mo?” or other similar retorts. She can’t forget that incident even years after. She did as was bid only to realize later on that it was just a scam. She was so worried that I got into an accident and she was convinced that I just borrowed a phone so I can text her to ask for load so I can call her. There is also one where the texter pretends to be your child who figured into an accident and asks you to reload the credits of the cellphone number they were using so they could call you. The most common text scam is one where the scammer pretends to be your OFW kin letting you know their new roaming number and telling you that they will send you a package after you send them load, or some variations of that. We are all familiar and probably almost all of us had at least received messages from text scammers trying to dupe the receiver into sending them cellphone load credits. I was so sure I will not fall victim to this scam that’s as old as pasaload itself but here I find myself.
